Total hip replacement surgery eliminates pain and movement limitations caused by osteoarthritis, aseptic necrosis and other hip diseases.

During the operation, two parts of the hip joint - the head of the thighbone (femur) and the hip socket (acetabulum) - are removed and replaced with artificial elements made of high-density plastic and a stainless metal. These implants, called prosthesis, are held in place with bony cement. Alternative method relies on bone growth into porous surface of the prosthesis stem and therefore is considered to last longer then the cemented hip.
